Terrible 2 at 14 Months

averyinahat2It seems one week after my little man turned 14 months he realized something.  He realized that he was a person with personality and decided to start expressing his independence and the idea of choice.  Choosing not to listen anymore.  Don’t get me wrong, I still have a great child.  We get such great compliments about his behavior it makes me wonder what in the world is going on with other people’s kids, but I can’t worry about them.  I have to worry about my little monster imitating every single thing and sound that we do.

We have finally reached a point where we have had to discipline him (so painful for me, but it must be done).  But it’s kind of hard to do because sometimes you just want to laugh at the crazy things they do.  He has decided that stomping his feet while turning around in circles then finally sitting down will get him what he wants.  How did he figure this out?  I have no clue because I don’t give him what he wants (I actually laugh on the inside because what makes you think this really works).

But the one thing that is very interesting (for lack of better words) about this stage is you get a good look at your own self.  Children are such sponges and if you take the time to really look at the things they do you will see yourself.  For example, as I walked pass the living room to the kitchen he started to talk with me while typing on the computer.  I couldn’t help but laugh because he actually looks like me or my husband when we are on the computer.  What is a mom to do?

How do you get through that terrible two stage?  What can you share with me that has worked for you? What has your little mirror taught you about yourself?

  1. That is a tough age. Especially since they have difficulty being able to express exactly how they feel with words. It’s frustrating on both sides.

My daughter didn’t hit the terrible two’s until she was about three.

She’s four now, and I’m STILL waiting for the “phase” to end.

  2. Boogie likes to start tantrums by falling out on the floor sometimes backwards. If we aren’t behind him to catch him, it doesn’t go so well, lol. He likes to scream NO! when I start getting on him, then he bawls as if it’s the end of the world. In public he’s a complete angel ;-) . Your little guy is so smoochable!
