My Postpartum Body Series 2: The Tummy

I have decided to start working on the next part of my body, which is…………the tummy. Yes, the tummy. This is an area that most women struggle with. I thought about tackling this a bit later on as I get use to my body however, with me working out I thought it would be good to incorporate this into my regime. To kick off this series off, I thought I would have a fitness blogger, Val Selby, post about this particular subject. Here is what she has to say on the subject.
Post Pregger Tummy
This is the most worried about issue pre and post pregnancy, “Will my stomach ever go flat again?” And is there a chance of it going back to it’s pre-pregnancy look?
There are a lot of factors to consider before an answer can be given without seeing someone. Did you gain a lot of weight with pregnancy? Did you gain most of your weight all at once? Were you overweight before pregnancy?
Did you gain the recommended weight? Possibly a little more than you were supposed to? Then baby, you have a chance after baby! But you will need to be strict for a little while. You will need to take in the calories recommended by your doctor if you are nursing. Remember that once you hit maintenance it is a different story and not as strict, but you have to get there first.
Diet is a big part and the hardest for most people to stick to. Eat fewer calories (not under 1200 daily average). You need to make sure and check with our doctor about calorie counts if you are breastfeeding. You do not want to hurt yourself or your baby with a lack of nutrition.
You have to exercise as well. Work those abs and all your muscles to burn more calories. Build those abs and obliques up. Then when you work the fat off with your cardio you have a flat tummy underneath. Cardio is the only way to burn fat. Don’t listen to anything else out there. If there was some quick pill or answer, then that pill would be prescription only already and companies would make even more money from it. Calories in vs. calories out. Nothing fancy, just determination.
There are MANY mothers that get their flat tummy. Mothers of twins and triplets even. It really depends on our skins genetics, weight gain, and our post-pregnancy regimen. How much is the skin damaged or is it just your lack of sticking to your weightloss plan?

There are definitely some women who get their bodies (almost) back into pre-pregnancy shape. Sadly, I’m not one of them.
My second baby was 9 pounds 9 ounces. I’m 5 feet tall. There was no place for him to go but out. lol. The good news was the two babies after him didn’t give me any stretch marks. The bad news was there wasn’t a place left on my stomach that didn’t already HAVE stretch marks.
After 4 babies in 5.5 years, all via c-section, my pre-kids body is gone forever. Now my goal is just to not look like my mom in 20 years.

My daughter was a fairly large baby (for my body frame). I did manage to get my flat tummy back…..while breastfeeding. I was doing great about eating well and taking her out for walks. But once I stopped breastfeeding and continued to consume the same amount of calories, I got a “pooch.”
I’m doing my best to shrink it before bathing suit season.

Great tips! After I had my last baby I had a hard time losing the extra weight around my tummy. Now I am expecting my fourth and vow not to gain as much weight as the last one. Hopefully that will help me to lose the belly fat sooner.

Great post! I’m working on getting bikini ready now. It’s all about discipline and how bad you want it.
