I Got My Groove Back!!!

exercise-cartoonI hope you enjoyed my video/vlog last Friday for my Get Fit Friday Post. I was going to do another one but I completely fell asleep which means I have to type my post today.  I really enjoyed doing the vlog I hope you did too.  Please let me know if you would love to see more video from me in the future?

Today I want to talk about Finding Your Groove when it comes to your exercise routine or any routine for that matter. As you know I have been having some struggles keeping exercise part of my weight loss routine.  I am also having problems with eating properly but one thing at a time please.  As much as I enjoy exercising it just seemed like such a daunting task to wake up an extra hour early to get some movement going in my life.  Well if you watched my vlog I have decided to do my exercise in the evening rather than the morning.  I must say that this switch has completely done it for me.  I have been exercising since last Thursday and I’ve only missed two days of exercise.  But, with even those missed days I was able to easily jump back into my exercise regime, unlike morning exercises where I just continued to sleep.  Not only am I keeping up with my routine, but my entire nightlife has changed (not talking about outside the house nightlife).  When I get home, I play with the baby, then I exercise (he loves watching my Wii exercise on the EA Active), I make dinner, then get little man ready for bed.  After he goes to bed I can either spend some quality time with hubby, get my clothes ready for the morning, take a shower and then get to bed.  I can’t believe I actually have enough time to get all of this done.  Oh one more thing, I’m sleeping really well too.  One little switch can really change your attitude and your life.

So has doing my exercise in the evening really made my life better?  I’m not sure if the actually exercise did, but the fact that I found a time that is comfortable and works for me. Too many times we follow what people tell us because we believe that’s the best way.  I mean it worked for them and for many others so why shouldn’t it work for me, right?  We force ourselves into a routine that doesn’t really fit with who we are and our inner “Me”, then we blame ourselves for our lack of progress and tell ourselves it doesn’t work and the negative self bash begins.  How do we get through this?

The first thing we must do is understand ourselves.  We must begin to understand what time of day (or night) that we are most productive for that specific activity. We also must allow ourselves to try.  If it doesn’t work don’t beat yourself up, find another way to do it so that it is no longer a struggle but fun and a must do.  Instead of engaging in self talk with myself because I couldn’t get up early in the morning to exercise I had to be okay with the fact that it doesn’t work for me so I can try another way.  Ask yourself, what is so wrong with doing it another way if you get the results that you want.

Finding your groove is just that, finding Your groove.  Finding what makes the task easier and enjoyable for you. So tell me what works best for you?  Have you been doing the same work out dvd, have you been working out the same time of day,  or maybe the same location and you are frustrated because you haven’t seen any results or it’s becoming ore of a chore than a way of life?  I challenge you to think outside of your routine and leave me a comment telling me what you can do differently?

Don’t forget to come back and tell me if it worked or if it didn’t?  If it didn’t work what else can you do?
