Get Your Hair Done! It’s Time.

hairsalonAbout 5 months into my pregnancy I went to the hairdresser and put twists in my hair.  At that time I was tired of wearying wigs (yes I wore wigs) and I was tired of making any attempts to do my hair.  After getting my hair done I thought I was the sexiest pregnant woman on this planet (ok maybe not better than Halle Berry but you get the point).  That was the only time during my pregnancy when I can honestly say my emotions got the best of me.  Right before my son was born I put my hair in braids because I figured that my hair is going to be the last thing I want to worry about while on maternity leave.  Boy am I happy I made that decision.

Well 11 months later I’m still doing nothing with my hair.  I took out the braids because I wanted to force myself to do my hair.  Well that worked alright.  I force my hair in a ponytail ever single day.  Now my hair is not long at all but long enough to have a little pig like tail sticking out of the rubber band or whatever I find to put in my hair.  Between struggling with my weight and being too tired to splash water on my face in the morning ( I do brush my teeth) I was looking atrocious.  I felt it too.  Something had to give.  I know I’m a mom but does that mean all sense of self care is thrown out the window and only use to make sure everyone else in the house is implementing hygiene practices.  Heck to the Naw!!!! I needed to do something.  I needed a change.  As I reflected on what hairstyles I liked or made me feel the best I came to the conclusion that I needed to cut my hair.  I wanted it cut so bad I was about to take my husband’s clippers and shave cut it myself.  But I didn’t.  I went to the hairdresser and I cut it.  It’s way shorter than how I would normally have it but I love it.

My hair has been cut for about a month now and I love it.  I love it, I love it, I love it!!!! I feel alive and like a new woman.  Sometimes I have to remind myself I’m married and I have kids, well not really but you get the point.  Cutting my hair has forced me to make sure my hair is done and now I’m back to using facial scrub when I wash my face in the morning.  It’s amazing how one little change can really change all that you do.

So when was the last time you got your hair done?  Well it doesn’t necessary have to be your hair, but something.  When was the last time you’ve done anything to make you feel hawt and sexy.  You know the funny thing is I was reading an e-book called Hot Mama Makeover (yes I’m trying to get a makeover) and the first step to this make over was getting your hair done.  I was so excited because I’m well on my way.  This book gives you 6 steps to becoming a hot mom.  Not only does it gives you the steps but it goes into details on how to do it, what to expect if you get it done professional, and how you can do it on a budget.  So since I unofficially started a Hot Mama Makeover case study I will officially make this post the first Hot Mama Makeover review.

Stop by again for step 2: Getting a Pedicure  and/or Manicure.  I can’t wait.

  1. Okay seriously I was feeling the same way this morning. I love the length of my hair now took to pregnancy to get it there so I don’t want to cut it but I’ve been tucking it in a ponytail for the past 3 weeks now. I do make it a point to go to the hair dresser every 6 weeks because I suck at doing my own hair.

But I’ve been a rut, I have been wearing t-shirts to work, tennis shoes, sweat shirts and its bad. I’m wearing black tennis right now! Couldn’t find my high heel boats I promised myself I would wear.

For the next few months I’m going to force myself to take time for me, because I have been in a major rut for the past couple of months. I’m right there with you and I’ll have to checkout the Hot Mama Makeover.

  2. I can TOTALLY relate. When I was pregnant with my 3rd child I got my hair cut short, short, short 5 months into the pregnancy. A year and a half later it’s still short, short, short and I LOVE it. It takes me like 10 minutes to do my hair. I’m well on my way to being a hot mama, too!

  3. I totally understand. I have those days but then I’m like why? I have way too many clothes, shoes and curling & flat irons. NO excuses! So I’ll pop in my contacts, throw on my heels, lip gloss and look super cute. Of course that was not this week. LOL!

I figure I don’t need to look glamour mom everyday but not like zombie mom everyday either. It’s hard trying to find a happy medium. Good thing my fiance loves me regardless :0)

I’d like to see pictures and can’t wait to see the next post. I love mani/pedi

  4. Isn’t it amazing what a new haircut will do for you? I’ve had that happen before, too and it DOES make you feel like a whole new woman! Yay for you! And thanks for stopping by my blog. Glad you did, because I look forward to returning to yours. :)

  5. Stephanie – I completely understand about not wanting to cut your hair. If it took me two pregnancy to get my hair to grow (cause my hair don’t grow) I wouldn’t cut it either. I’m glad you are still managing to go the hair dresser every 6 weeks. That will certainly keep your hair healthy and looking good (even in the ponytail).

Krystal – We are certainly being hot mamas. It takes me about 10 minutes to do my hair as well (providing I my head scarf stays on at night). I don’t know how long I’m going to keep it short or possibly go shorter (oh no!!!) but I love it.

Andrea – You are right! Don’t have to be a glamour mom everyday but not a zombie either. For me personally having my hair done gives me that medium I’m searching for. Because even if I have on some sweats my hair looks good so I still look and feel confident.

Theta Mom – Who new that my new do would bring back hygiene and self worth (lol). Thanks and I hope to see you around here again.

  6. I couldn’t agree more. There’s nothing that can make you feel like a whole new you than a nice haircut. Well, perhaps a great outfit, too :)

  7. Yikes, I think the comment box ate my comment.

I said something like there’s nothing like getting a new haircut to make you feel like a whole new person. Well, perhaps also getting a new outfit.

  8. Kudos to your for bring sexy back Hot Mama! I haven’t gotten my hair done in months just because I’m trying to cut back on expensive, but I am trying to make a conscious effort every 2 weeks to do it myself. It takes 3 hours! Yikes! Anyway, we need to see a picture of your new do. Thanks for the well wishes on my pregnancy. I’ll be looking to you for advice.
