Have You Watched him/her lately?
Since I don’t get to spend as much time as I would like to with my little man I try to make sure that the time spent is good quality time. Now that doesn’t mean he gets to do whatever he wants and I spoil him (according to hubby it does), but I do want to make sure he knows that him and mommy had some good times. Plus, I’m not always there to hear his first words, or watch him take his first step cruising along the couch. So what I do to really enjoy my kid is I simly watch him.
I sit and watch my little man just about every day. I’m pretty sure he thinks he has a creepy mommy, but I really enjoy just watching him. Have you ever sat down cleared your head from the troubles of the world and literally watch your child? I did this yesterday and I was so amazed. My child is no longer a baby. He is a real human being. I mean he was human when he was born, but now I can see his mind working as ours do. I watched him look for items as they disappear. He talked (yelled giberish) to us as hubby and I had conversations that he felt the need to be apart of. He even gives facial expressions. I was so amazed! From time to time I watch him try to immitate the things that his dad does, like spin the football, or drop something on the floor, just as he does. I just can’t believe it. I even sit there and watch him figure out how to get the keys off the door.
So I ask you again, when was the last time you sat and just watch your child explore life for the first time. As he gets older there will be so much for him to see, explore, and notice for the first time. I’m so eager to see it and so pleased that I have this privilege.
What has amazed about your child as you watch them explore life?

This is such a great post, Felicia. Watching my kids, especially my daughter, is something that I started doing myself recently. It was funny to stumble upon your post because I have been thinking about how it is a very strange habit that I am developing.
Similar to you, though, I love doing it. I sit and marvel at how my children have changed and simply the fact that they are my kids.
I supposed what has amazed me most is my kids’ ability to understand so much of what adults around them say and do. They learn at an alarmingly fast pace.

My husband and I take the time every night to just sit back and watch when we can. We’ll even exchange glances sometimes when we both see something we think is hilarious but we don’t want to laugh out loud to ruin the moment. Great post!

Oh I hear ya! Mine is almost four, and I still spend loads of time each day just staring and watching– I can’t help it! She’s just THAT cool
It’s so neat to hear them say certain things that seem like you or your husband… and then things that come randomly out of left field!

My daughter is 11 and I ask myself at times, where did the time fly? My daughter’s a talker, so I sit back at times and just let her talk. All I do is listen and give an occasional really, uhhuh, and then what type of response. I try not to add too much to what she is saying because I want her to just flow with her words, thoughts and feelings. By just being silent, I learn so much about her and where her mind is at, along with what’s going on with all her friends, including who’s dating who and so on. But just to sit and listen amazes me. At times, I’m just amazed at her maturity with respect to certain areas in her life.
Thank you for reminding us to stop and really get in tune with our children.

I also enjoy WATCHING my little ones. I am still amazed sometimes at how God has aloud me to be a mom to 3 beautiful children. Back when I was a messed up teen – I never thought I would come to the place of being normal. I am so blessed along with all of the other awesome mama’s in the world. So, yes, I can relate with you and I do cherish the times when I can just sit and have quality time with my children. I believe that it brings them up to be more secure in themselves to get the love and attention that they need from us as parents.
By the way, thanks so much for stopping by my blog and commenting on my bathroom organization post. Have an awesome day!
